About the International Gorilla Conservation Programme (IGCP)
The International Gorilla Conservation Programme (IGCP) is a coalition of three globally respected conservation organizations:
- Conservation International (CI)
- Fauna & Flora
- WWF
The programme works collaboratively with governments and local communities to secure the long-term survival of the critically endangered mountain gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei).
IGCP operates across the three countries that share mountain gorilla habitat:
- Rwanda
- Uganda
- Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)
The organization works closely with:
- Rwanda Development Board (RDB)
- Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA)
- Institut Congolais pour la Conservation de la Nature (ICCN)
Additionally, IGCP partners with community-based organizations, research institutions, civil society organizations, private sector stakeholders, and local governments to promote sustainable conservation and community development.
Available Internship Positions
IGCP is currently recruiting for the following internship opportunities:
- Conservation Intern
- Community Conservation Intern
Both internships are based in Musanze District, Rwanda, and will run for six (6) months, starting immediately.
1. Conservation Intern
Position Summary
The Conservation Intern will support IGCP's efforts to strengthen Human-Wildlife Conflict (HWC) monitoring while improving Ranger Based Monitoring (RBM) through the use of the Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool (SMART).
This internship offers valuable field and technical experience inside Volcanoes National Park.
- Duty Station: Musanze District, Rwanda
- Reports To: Field Officer
- Duration: 6 Months
- Start Date: Immediately
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will assist IGCP staff in:
- Conducting regular fieldwork within Volcanoes National Park.
- Monitoring Ranger Based Monitoring (RBM) data collection using SMART.
- Downloading, cleaning, and managing SMART data.
- Assisting in SMART report generation.
- Monitoring Human-Wildlife Conflict (HWC) data.
- Cleaning and managing HWC datasets.
- Supporting HWC data analysis and reporting.
- Performing additional duties assigned by supervisors.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be a Rwandan citizen.
- Hold a Bachelor's Degree in:
- Wildlife Management
- Ecology
- Biodiversity Conservation
- Natural Resource Management
- or another relevant discipline.
- Have graduated within the last two years.
- Possess computer and GIS skills for data collection and analysis.

Interns will work closely with Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), helping improve livelihoods while promoting sustainable conservation initiatives.

Main Responsibilities
The selected intern will assist in:
- Supporting project proposal development.
- Participating in activity planning.
- Monitoring community conservation projects.
- Conducting regular field visits.
- Collecting Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) data.
- Translating reports into English.
- Supporting Community-Based Organizations in developing socioeconomic projects.
- Assisting with donor proposal preparation.
- Performing additional assigned duties.
Eligibility Requirements

- Be Rwandan citizens.
- Hold a Bachelor's Degree in:
- Rural Development
- Project Management
- Entrepreneurship
- Agronomy
- Animal Production
- Veterinary Medicine
- or a related field.
- Have graduated within the past two years.
