About the Technical Director Position

The Technical Director will provide strategic leadership and oversight of the company's technical functions. The position covers key areas including underwriting, reinsurance, product development, risk assessment, and portfolio management.

Key Responsibilities

The Technical Director will be responsible for:

  1. Developing and executing the company's technical strategy in alignment with Britam Group strategy, business objectives, risk appetite, and market opportunities.
  2. Providing strategic technical leadership and advisory support to the CEO, Executive Management, and Board on underwriting, reinsurance, product development, portfolio performance, and emerging industry trends.
  3. Leading underwriting governance and oversight to ensure effective risk selection, appropriate pricing, portfolio quality, and compliance with underwriting standards and risk appetite.
  4. Developing and implementing reinsurance strategies that optimize risk transfer, capital efficiency, protection structures, and portfolio resilience.
  5. Overseeing reinsurance placement and management, including treaty negotiations, facultative arrangements, reinsurer relationships, broker engagement, and monitoring reinsurance effectiveness.
  6. Driving product development and portfolio optimization through market analysis, profitability reviews, product enhancements, and alignment with customer and business needs.
  7. Establishing and maintaining technical frameworks, policies, and guidelines to strengthen underwriting discipline, risk management, and operational consistency.
  8. Monitoring portfolio performance using technical indicators such as loss ratios, combined ratios, claims trends, pricing adequacy, and underwriting profitability.
  9. Ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, insurance laws, Group standards, and governance frameworks.
  10. Leading technical transformation and operational excellence initiatives through process improvement, automation, data-driven decision-making, and adoption of best practices.
  11. Collaborating with Claims, Finance, Risk, Actuarial, and Business Development teams to support profitable growth across the insurance value chain.
  12. Supporting strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, and business performance reviews by providing technical insights and recommendations.
  13. Building and maintaining relationships with regulators, reinsurers, brokers, industry partners, and other strategic stakeholders.
  14. Leading, coaching, and developing technical teams while fostering a high-performance culture and supporting succession planning.
  15. Providing oversight of technical reporting and management information for Executive Management and the Board.
  16. Identifying emerging insurance risks and market developments and recommending strategies to strengthen competitiveness and business sustainability.
  17. Promoting innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement across technical functions.

Qualifications and Experience
