The Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA) has announced a new recruitment opportunity for qualified and experienced professionals interested in working as Video Journalists (VJs). A total of seven (7) positions are available under the Rwanda Television (RTV) department.
This opportunity is suitable for candidates with academic and professional backgrounds in journalism, multimedia production, broadcasting, film production, communication, video production, and related fields.

Position Details
Purpose of the Position
The Video Journalist will be responsible for researching, gathering, producing, and delivering high-quality video news and feature content for television, digital platforms, and social media.
The successful candidates will be expected to work in accordance with RBA's editorial standards, public service mandate, and strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
1. News Gathering and Reporting
The Video Journalist will:
- Identify, research, and develop news and feature stories.
- Cover breaking news, scheduled events, and special assignments.
- Conduct interviews with relevant stakeholders and subject matter experts.
- Verify facts and ensure accuracy, balance, and impartiality of content.
2. Video Production
Responsibilities will include:
- Operating cameras, audio, lighting, and mobile journalism equipment.
- Capturing high-quality video and audio content for broadcast and digital platforms.
- Producing live and recorded reports from the field.
3. Script Writing and Story Development
The successful candidate will:
- Write news scripts, voice-overs, and story treatments.
- Develop compelling story angles and visual narratives.
- Adapt content for different platforms and audiences.
4. Editing and Post-Production
The Video Journalist will also:
- Edit video packages and news reports using approved software.
- Add graphics, subtitles, and other production elements where required.
- Ensure timely delivery of content in accordance with newsroom deadlines.
5. Digital Content Creation
The position also involves:
- Producing multimedia content for online and social media platforms.
- Supporting RBA's digital-first content strategy.
- Creating short-form videos and other audience-engagement content.
6. Editorial Compliance
Candidates will be required to:
- Follow editorial policies, journalistic ethics, and broadcasting regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality and protect sources where appropriate.
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
7. Collaboration
The Video Journalist will work closely with:
- Producers
- Editors
- Presenters
- Technical teams
The role also involves participating in editorial meetings, contributing story ideas, supporting special projects and coverage initiatives, and performing other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.
RBA Video Journalist Jobs Required Qualifications
Educational Qualifications
Applicants should have a degree or certificate of competence in one of the following areas:
- Journalism
- Multimedia Production
- Event Video
- Video Communication
- Film Production
- Mass Communication
- Media Studies
- Broadcasting
- Communication
- A related field
Professional Experience
Candidates should have a minimum of 2 to 5 years of experience in:
- Television journalism
- Multimedia reporting
- Video production
Previous experience working in a broadcast newsroom is considered an added advantage.
Technical Competencies
Applicants should demonstrate competence in:
- Camera operation and visual storytelling
- Video editing using professional editing software
- Audio recording
- Basic lighting techniques
- Mobile Journalism (MoJo) production
- Digital publishing

Knowledge Requirements
