Position Overview: Matron / Patron

Location: ETM Gashora, Rwanda 
Employment Type: Shift Work

The primary purpose of this role is to provide day-to-day supervision, care, and safeguarding of refugees housed at the ETM facility. The Matron/Patron will be responsible for maintaining a safe, dignified, and protective living environment for all residents.

Key Responsibilities

1. Residential Care and Supervision: The successful candidate will oversee the daily routines and living conditions of ETM residents. This includes ensuring that safety, hygiene, and dignity standards are consistently met across all residential spaces.
2. Protection and Safeguarding: Matrons and Patrons are expected to proactively identify and report any protection risks. They must ensure strict adherence to Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) protocols and organizational safeguarding standards at all times.
3. Support to Child Protection (CP) and GBV Programming: This role involves supporting the identification and referral of vulnerable individuals including children and survivors of gender-based violence to appropriate services. The candidate will also provide basic psychosocial support as needed.
4. Monitoring and Reporting: Regular checks of the facility and residents are required. The Matron/Patron must report incidents accurately, maintain proper records, and contribute to organizational accountability systems.
5. Resident Engagement: Fostering a sense of community is central to this role. The candidate will actively promote peaceful coexistence, social participation, and a supportive environment for all residents.
6. Coordination: The Matron/Patron will work closely with protection, health, and ETM teams to ensure holistic and well-coordinated service delivery.
7. Accountability: Supporting feedback and complaint mechanisms is an essential part of the role, ensuring residents have a voice and concerns are addressed appropriately.

Required Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • A diploma or secondary school education
  • Between 1 and 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Working knowledge of child protection, GBV, and safeguarding principles

Language Requirements

  • Fluency in both English and Kinyarwanda is required
