IMBARAGA Hiring Youth Agri-preneurship Officers to Strengthen Agriculture Value Chains
Founded in 1992 by Rwandan farmers, IMBARAGA works to promote the shift from traditional to professional farming, empowering farmers to improve productivity, adopt modern technologies, and build profitable enterprises. Through the Youth Entrepreneurship in Agriculture Rwanda (YEA-R) Program, the organization seeks to equip young women, men, and persons with disabilities with dignified and equitable work opportunities in agriculture.
About the Opportunity
To scale up youth-focused agricultural development activities, IMBARAGA is recruiting dynamic and skilled individuals for two key roles:
- Horticulture Youth Agri-preneurship Officer
- Poultry Youth Agri-preneurship Officer
These positions will support the horticulture and poultry value chains across Rusizi, Nyamasheke, Rutsiro, Rubavu, and Muhanga Districts.
The successful candidates will provide technical assistance, coordinate field activities, strengthen youth agripreneurship skills, and facilitate market-driven agribusiness growth.
1. Horticulture Youth Agri-preneurship Officer
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Crop Production, Crop Science, Agribusiness, or Agronomy
- Minimum 3 years relevant experience in horticulture production or extension
- Prior experience working with youth or community groups is an added advantage
Key Competencies
- Strong technical knowledge in horticulture
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills
- Ability to analyze agribusiness performance
- Strong reporting, organizational, and digital skills
- High integrity and ability to work independently
Main Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance to youth horticulture agripreneurs
- Conduct field visits, demonstrations, and farmer field schools
- Promote climate-smart and market-oriented horticulture practices
- Support adoption of modern technologies and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)
- Train youth in business planning, marketing, budgeting, and record-keeping
- Facilitate access to inputs, financial services, and markets
- Strengthen youth groups in governance and sustainability
- Identify market opportunities and support compliance with standards
- Build partnerships with buyers, processors, and service providers
2. Poultry Youth Agri-preneurship Officer
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Health, or Veterinary Technologies
- Minimum 2 years experience in poultry production or veterinary extension
- Experience in community poultry programs is an added advantage
Key Competencies
- Strong technical expertise in poultry management
- Strong communication and youth facilitation skills
- Ability to support agribusiness performance improvements
- Excellent reporting and digital data-management skills
- Ability to work under minimal supervision
Main Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance in broiler, layer, and dual-purpose poultry systems
- Conduct farm visits, coaching, vaccination sessions, and farmer field schools
- Promote climate-smart and biosecure production practices
- Support adoption of improved poultry technologies
- Train youth in enterprise planning, financial literacy, and marketing
- Facilitate access to quality inputs and reliable output markets
- Strengthen youth poultry groups in governance and financial management
- Identify emerging market opportunities for eggs, broilers, and by-products
- Build partnerships with hatcheries, feed manufacturers, suppliers, and financiers
- Support contract farming models and aggregation initiatives
3. Duty Stations and Contract Duration
- Locations: Rusizi, Nyamasheke, Rutsiro, Rubavu, and Muhanga
- Type: Full-time position with extensive field travel
- Duration: 12-month renewable contract, subject to performance
