About the Role Investment Associate (Kirehe/Mahama)
The Investment Associate is a key member of the Access to Finance Department.
You will work directly with entrepreneurs to:
- Conduct due diligence
- Manage loans
- Monitor portfolio performance
- Support repayment tracking
- Maintain accurate investment records
This role requires a strong mix of technical financial skills, fieldwork, and relationship-building with clients.
Key Responsibilities
1. Due Diligence & Investment Preparation (60%)
- Respond to inquiries from prospective borrowers
- Explain loan products, terms, and repayment requirements
- Conduct thorough business appraisals and credit assessments
- Review and verify required documentation
- Perform business site visits and eligibility assessments
- Open new investment accounts and complete necessary forms
- Prepare full loan files for internal review
- Collect client photos, stories, and consent for fundraising partners
- Work closely with Business Development Services (BDS) teams
- Maintain strong internal controls and accurate workflows
2. Portfolio Management (20%)
- Maintain strong relationships with active borrowers
- Conduct follow-ups, monitor field activities, and support repayments
- Keep delinquency and default rates within target limits
- Track repayment history and maintain accurate portfolio updates
- Participate in weekly portfolio review meetings
- Coordinate with Finance teams for reconciliations and invoicing
- Engage local leaders, courts, or authorities when necessary
- Ensure compliance with lender requirements
3. Investment Management System Oversight (20%)
- Record disbursements, repayments, and loan updates
- Ensure data accuracy in the investment system
- Collaborate with system providers to optimize performance
- Manage user permissions and system security
- Support automation of lending processes
- Generate system and portfolio reports
- Train new staff on loan/investment software
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Accounting, or related field
- Minimum 3 years of experience in microfinance, loan management, credit analysis, or MSE finance
- Fluency in Kinyarwanda and English
- Familiarity with group lending or community savings models
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Experience with loan management systems (LMS)
- Ability to handle difficult repayment conversations professionally
- Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail
- Experience in legal or court processes is an added advantage
