Position Summary
As a Senior Professional Advisor, you will play a critical role in advancing public health policy and regulatory excellence across Africa. This position serves as the principal policy advisor and analyst to the FDA Africa Regional Office Director, providing strategic guidance on matters affecting health security and regulatory harmonization throughout the continent.
Core Responsibilities
Policy Analysis & Advisory:
- Analyze African Union (AU) policy frameworks and provide expert guidance on FDA-regulated products, including pharmaceuticals, biologics, medical devices, food safety, and veterinary medicine
- Serve as the primary policy advisor to the FDA Africa Regional Office Director
Strategic Initiatives:
- Support the operationalization of the African Medicines Agency (AMA)
- Develop comprehensive strategies to prevent adverse public health impacts across the region
- Facilitate cooperation between U.S. agencies and African Union institutions on critical public health issues
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Maintain strategic relationships with key contacts within AU institutions
- Provide high-level strategic assessments and policy recommendations to senior FDA officials
- Monitor and respond to emerging policy developments affecting public health regulation
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
A Bachelor's degree is required in one of the following fields:
- Public Health or Global Health
- Pharmaceutical Sciences
- Biology or Chemistry
- International Policy or Public Policy
Professional Experience
Candidates must demonstrate a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience working with public health or regulatory policy organizations. Ideal candidates will have:
- Experience in policy analysis and development
- Background in international health cooperation
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks for health products
