About SCON(N)

Services Company Outgrowers Nyaruguru (North) Ltd SCON(N) was established to support the development of tea farming across approximately 3,000 hectares of land, engaging over 6,000 smallholder farmers. Through the provision of agronomic advisory services, Farmer Field School training, financial facilitation, and production logistics, SCON(N) plays a pivotal role in the Rwandan tea sector, supplying at least 75% of tea to Browns Plantations Rwanda Ltd.

We are currently seeking a qualified, detail-oriented, and self-motivated professional to join our team in the role of Field Capita.

1. Position Summary

The Field Capita is responsible for delivering technical guidance to tea farmers, monitoring field operations, and driving improvements in tea production quality and yield. The role requires close collaboration with farming communities to implement best agricultural practices, ensure adherence to company standards, and facilitate access to inputs, training, and financial support.

The successful candidate will be expected to collect and report on field data, coordinate extension services, and work cross-functionally with internal teams to meet the company's production and quality targets. This position demands a strong field presence and excellent communication skills.

2. Key Responsibilities

  1. Sensitize farming communities, including local leaders and the general population on tea cultivation and disseminate relevant program information.
  2. Register new tea farmers and map their tea plots under the supervision of the agronomist.
  3. Supervise land preparation activities, including bush clearing, stump removal, first and second tillage, erosion control, lining, pegging, holing, and seedling transport and planting.
  4. Oversee all aftercare and maintenance activities, including weeding, decentering, pruning, fertilizing, and plucking of planted tea.
  5. Monitor and support field-level tea planting program activities, and conduct regular liaison meetings with village leaders.
  6. Prepare and submit regular field updates, including case studies, success stories, and lessons learned.
  7. Facilitate farmer training through Farmer Field Schools (FFS).
  8. Collect field data in alignment with program indicators and reporting requirements.
  9. Perform any additional duties as assigned by the line manager.

3. Key Qualifications

  • Must be a Rwandan citizen.
  • Fluency in Kinyarwanda and English is required.
  • A minimum of A2 level qualification in Agricultural Science, Agronomy, Crop Production, or a related field.
  • Prior experience working with smallholder farmers in tea extension services will be a distinct advantage.
  • Willingness and ability to live and work in the following sectors of Nyaruguru District: Cyahinda, Kibeho, Munini, and Mata.
  • Strong team player with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
