The AYPReS Programme is currently being implemented across ten African countries, including Rwanda. At its core, the programme seeks to deeply understand youth resilience, lived experiences, voice, agency, and pathways to dignified, fulfilling work with a specific focus on:

• Women
• Youth in informal employment
• Refugees and Displaced Persons (RDPs)
• Persons with Disabilities (PWDs)

The research methodology combines both quantitative and qualitative approaches to generate evidence capable of shaping better youth-focused policies and programmes across the continent.

Selected enumerators will be responsible for supporting field data collection, data cleaning, and data organisation across targeted communities throughout Rwanda.

Key Responsibilities

As a Research Enumerator under the AYPReS Programme, you will be expected to:

• Participate in mandatory training on research tools, ethics, safeguarding, and digital data collection platforms
• Administer structured questionnaires using digital tools in the field
• Conduct Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with community members
• Uphold informed consent, confidentiality, and all ethical research standards throughout data collection
• Accurately record and submit high-quality data within agreed timelines
• Attend daily debrief meetings with field supervisors
• Promptly report any field challenges or safeguarding concerns
• Deliver clean datasets, brief field summaries, and comprehensive field reports

This role demands a high level of professionalism, integrity, and interpersonal skill particularly when engaging vulnerable and marginalised communities.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Age

•  35 years or below at the time of application

Education

A minimum of a Diploma or Bachelor's degree in any of the following fields:

• Social Sciences
• Development Studies
• Sociology
• Gender Studies
• Social Work
• Statistics
• Economics
• Public Policy
• Environmental Studies
• Or any closely related discipline

A Master's degree is considered an added advantage.

Experience

• At least two years of experience in quantitative data collection
• Demonstrated experience supporting or independently conducting FGDs and KIIs
• Prior experience working with marginalised groups including women, PWDs, refugees, and youth

Skills and Knowledge

• Strong understanding of research ethics and data confidentiality
• Knowledge of Rwanda's socio-economic and youth employment landscape
• Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda (additional local languages are a bonus)
• Ability and willingness to work in rural, remote areas and refugee camp settings

Reporting Structure

All enumerators will report directly to Research Associates and Field Supervisors assigned to the AYPReS project in Rwanda. Daily communication and structured debriefs will ensure data quality and field safety throughout the assignment.

Ethical Standards

PASGR places exceptional emphasis on research integrity and ethical conduct. Every enumerator must:

• Strictly respect confidentiality and data protection guidelines
• Ensure voluntary participation and properly obtain informed consent from all respondents
• Follow all safeguarding, child protection, and youth protection standards
• Maintain zero tolerance for data falsification or misconduct of any kind

Any violation of these standards will result in immediate termination of the assignment.
