Ambucycle Is Hiring Motorcycle-Based Nurse First Responders in Kigali. Here Is Everything You Need to Know
If you are a licensed nurse in Rwanda with a passion for emergency care and the courage to ride toward danger when others ride away, Ambucycle has an opportunity that was built for you. This is not a desk job. This is not a routine ward posting. This is frontline, high-speed, life-saving prehospital care and it is one of the most meaningful nursing roles available in Kigali right now.
About Ambucycle
Ambucycle is dedicated to providing rapid, global-standard prehospital care. Their mission is straightforward but powerful: develop skilled and empathetic first responders who can navigate Kigali's traffic efficiently and address acute medical emergencies before patients ever reach a hospital.
The concept is simple in theory and extraordinary in practice. When someone collapses from a cardiac arrest, suffers a stroke, or is involved in a serious road accident, the minutes before hospital care arrives are often the most critical of their lives. Ambucycle places trained nurses on motorcycles so that professional medical care reaches the scene first fast, capable, and ready.
They are currently seeking dedicated Nurses to join their elite team of motorcycle-based First Responders, and the deadline is approaching.
The Role
As an Ambucycle First Responder, you will be the first line of defense in medical emergencies across Kigali. You will operate a motorcycle to reach scenes quickly, assess critical situations, and deliver life-saving prehospital care in real time.
Your clinical responsibility is serious. You will be stabilizing patients experiencing cardiovascular emergencies, respiratory distress, neurological events, and trauma-related injuries all before and during transition to the next level of care. This role demands both clinical excellence and personal courage in equal measure.
Key Responsibilities
Based on Ambucycle's core competency framework, a First Responder's duties will include the following:
- Rapid Response: Safely operate a motorcycle to reach emergency scenes immediately.
- Clinical Assessment: Perform rapid and accurate assessments of patient conditions covering Trauma, Airway, Breathing, and Circulation.
- Emergency Intervention: Administer BLS and ALS interventions including CPR, airway management (suctioning), hemorrhage control, IV/IO access, and fluid administration.
- Triage & Scene Management: Assess scene safety, prioritize care based on severity, and coordinate with police and other emergency teams.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of patient status, interventions, and vital signs using standard reporting formats.
- Communication: Provide clear, empathetic updates to patients and families, and perform professional handovers to receiving hospital teams.
Mandatory Requirements
To be eligible for this program, applicants MUST meet all of the following criteria:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
- Professional Licensure: Must hold a valid registration and license as a healthcare provider (Nursing) in Rwanda.
- Driving Licensure: Must hold a valid Motorcycle Driving License.
- Health: Must be in good mental and physical health.
Please note that all four requirements are non-negotiable. If you do not currently hold a motorcycle driving license, this would be the most important step to take before applying.
Preferred Qualifications
While the mandatory requirements form the baseline, the following will significantly strengthen your application:
- Experience: Previous experience in Emergency Care, ICU, or Trauma Units is highly encouraged and will be considered a strong asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work under high-stress conditions without losing clinical judgment.
- Strong command of English and Kinyarwanda, both verbal and written.
If your nursing background includes time in an emergency department or intensive care unit, make sure that experience is front and center in your application. It matters here more than almost anywhere else.
Core Competencies
Successful candidates must embody Ambucycle's values at every level of their work. These are not abstract ideals they are daily professional expectations.
- Empathy & Ethics: Treat all patients with dignity, privacy, and respect regardless of background, circumstance, or condition.
- Resilience: Maintain composure and make sound clinical decisions in high-pressure, rapidly evolving environments.
- Teamwork: Collaborate effectively with police, traffic officers, and hospital staff to deliver seamless emergency care.
Ambucycle is building a culture, not just a workforce. The nurses who thrive in this role will be those who take these values personally.
