CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR PROXIMITY COACHES

The Rwanda Youth in Agribusiness Forum (RYAF) invites qualified, motivated, and community-oriented individuals to apply for the position of Proximity Coach under the Promoting Smallholder Agri-Export Competitiveness (PSAC) Project. This opportunity offers a chance to contribute to strengthening Rwanda's coffee value chain through farmer-centered training and support at the grassroots level.
The initiative is implemented under the leadership of the National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB) in partnership with RYAF. Using the Farmer Field School (FFS) approach and a Training of Trainers (ToT) model, the project aims to enhance coffee productivity, promote climate-smart agriculture, and empower farmers through practical, field-based learning.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Hold at least an A2 certificate in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Production, or Horticulture
- Demonstrate strong communication skills in Kinyarwanda, with a working knowledge of English
- Ability to effectively engage with rural communities
- Capability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Knowledge of Rwanda's coffee value chain (added advantage)
- Experience in coffee value chain and/or FFS implementation (added advantage)
- Certification in FFS implementation (for candidates from other academic backgrounds)
- Ability to simplify technical concepts using local language
- Understanding of adult learning principles and participatory facilitation approaches
- Must reside within or near the target sector of deployment
AVAILABLE POSITIONS
A total of 78 Proximity Coaches will be recruited and distributed across six districts as follows:

Each Proximity Coach will facilitate at least 11 Farmer Field Schools (FFS) within their assigned sector.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Selected candidates will be responsible for:
- Mobilizing and organizing coffee farmers into functional Farmer Field School groups
- Facilitating participatory, field-based learning sessions using the FFS methodology
- Supporting implementation and localization of the FFS curriculum
- Guiding farmers in Agro-Ecosystem Analysis (AESA) for informed decision-making
- Establishing and managing demonstration plots for practical learning
- Promoting Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and climate-smart agriculture
- Collaborating with stakeholders including district authorities, cooperatives, and technical teams
- Supporting coffee rehabilitation and productivity improvement initiatives
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
Interested applicants must submit:
- A signed cover letter indicating interest and preferred two sectors of assignment
- Updated and signed CV (maximum 3 pages) with at least three professional references
- Copy of National ID
- Copies of academic certificates
- Certificates related to FFS implementation or coffee value chain (if available)
- Certificate of residence within the target sector
